NORTON, Mass., July 31, 2006 Their names represent some of the largest and most recognizable names in New England business. But what makes membership in the Founders Club of the Deutsche Bank Championship special is what privileges membership brings to the golf fans and the charities of New England. Aside from helping the event raise record-setting charitable donations in the first three years of the Championship, which has fast become a Labor Day tradition around New England, the Founders Club has created a support system that brought an electric atmosphere to the first three years of the Deutsche Bank Championship. The 2006 edition of the Deutsche Bank Championship returns to the Tournament Players Club of Boston in Norton, Mass., Aug. 29-Sept. 4. The 2006 Founders Club include newcomers Dunkin Donuts, The Boston Globe and the Massachusetts State Lottery, which join returners EMC Corporation, State Street Corporation, The Golf Digest Companies, The Wall Street Journal and Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Deutsche Bank and our Founders Club partners have allowed this Championship to flourish and benefit many worthy causes, said Deutsche Bank Championship Director Eric Baldwin. With their support, we have been able to make an impact on charities such as the Tiger Woods Learning Center as well as numerous deserving New England charitable organizations. This championship has brought so many people together thanks to our hard work with our partners, said Seth Waugh, CEO of Deutsche Bank Americas. We have certainly left a lasting impression and impact on our communities as well as the world of golf thanks to the support of our partners. Thanks to the golf fans of New England for making this such a special place for the Championship. The involvement of our Founders Club partners means that the popular corporate hospitality packages the Colonial Club and the Sky Chalets have once again, sold out. This means that charitable proceeds from the Deutsche Bank Championship are once again headed to the upper echelon of PGA TOUR events. In its first three years, the Deutsche Bank Championship has raised around $4.5 million for the Tiger Woods Foundation and local charities.
"Dunkin' Donuts is very proud to be a founding club sponsor of the Deutsche Bank Championship. This tournament is a gathering of the most exceptional talent in the world of golf, said Robert Rodriguez, Dunkin Donuts brand officer. We know that becoming a leader in your field requires a relentless pursuit of excellence -- and that doesn't happen overnight. The folks at Dunkin' Donuts appreciate the dedication, drive and meticulous attention to detail that's required to become a world class golfer - That's something we strive to work towards every day to ensure that we deliver the 'best coffee in America' to our customers." Commitment like that is part of the reason the Deutsche Bank Championship has such an impact on the local economy. By taking such an active role in promoting one of New Englands fastest-rising and most-exciting sporting events of the year, partners hit the bottom of the cup when it comes to hitting the areas bottom line. According to the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Deutsche Bank Championship has infused approximately $100 million to the economies of Greater Boston and Providence, RI since it's inception in 2003.
Championship week for the Deutsche Bank Championship begins with practice rounds Tuesday, Aug. 29 and Wednesday, Aug. 30, followed by a pro-am competition Thursday, Aug. 31. The four-day Championship begins Friday, Sept. 1 and continues through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4 the only scheduled Monday finish on the PGA TOUR. The first two rounds of the Championship will be on USA Networks, with the final two rounds on ABC-TV.
